Operation: BATTLEFIELD : Concordia ( Moved from public to private )

Sounds like that would take (lots of time) * 1 million.

I plan to bring:

"Xenu it's a trap!" (anti camera sign)
"CCHR is a Scientology front group"
"Youtube KESQ + Scientology"
(I'll bring more signs if needed or requested, but so far it looks like we're 3)

I imagine a lot of people will have internet enabled laptops since we're either in or near the library, so I think that last sign is a must.

More questions:
* I assume we aren't exactly going to have a home base right? So anything we bring we have to be ready to carry with us?
* Since it seems we're doing something Thursday, what are our plans for Friday or this thingy CCHR has planned for Saturday? I'm down for extra raids.
* Should I bring an anti bullbaiter sign? "This is how Scientology treats it's critics!" I'd place odds that we'll get someone giving us a hard time. Not sure what the best way to deal with that is.
* I imagine we can all find our way to concordia campus, but who knows exactly where this CCHR thing is? I don't know how to get there... I don't even know which building is which.
* Where's our meet up point? (A street intersection would solve the above problem.) I'm thinking guy-maisoneuve.

Discuss.

I've never protested CCHR directly. I figure this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_Commission_on_Human_Rights

is a good read for anyone who hasn't either.

Also, read about anti-psychiatry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti_psychiatry

You'll see that scientologist did not invented anti-psychiatry. Plus, they are barely a footnote in history of anti-psychatry.

How about this:

WHEN: Thursday, April 16th, noon
MEETING POINT: Tim Horton's next to Métro Guy-Concordia
WHAT WE NEED:
- English Fliers: CCHR fliers + OTIII
- French Fliers: Flier from last raid should be fine
- Signs
- Guy Fawkes mask
- Cameras. Lots of them.

Also, we need a volunteer to give a call to Concordia newspaper, to the Gazette, to The Mirror and to The Hour righ before the raid. Let them know we are going to protest at Concordia.

I'd just like to mention that we're not pro-psychiatry. Not as a group anyway.

We're anti-Scientologists taking advantage of blissfully ignorant students to get them to join their cult.

I quoted a bit of Wiki's page on CCHR in hope that it'll get more people to read it.

Wikipedia wrote:
Although the organization is sponsored by the Church of Scientology, they emphasize that its composition is diverse and not merely that of Scientologists.Although the organizations are incorporated separately, they are regarded by the United States Government as part of the Church of Scientology's network of corporate entities. In 1993, the US IRS granted CCHR tax exemption as part of an agreement with the Church of Scientology and RTC under which the RTC took responsibility for CCHR's tax liabilities.
CCHR's relationship with the Church of Scientology is mediated through the Church's (OSA).Critics of Scientology have charged that CCHR is merely a front group for the Churchand have pointed to internal Church documents that appear to describe
CCHR's campaigns as a means of extending the influence of the Church of
Scientology. Until recent years, a number of CCHR offices were listed at Church of Scientology Org locations.Scientologists are religiously committed never to take psychiatric drugs and to reject outright.

I'd be up for 4 hours, but no more than that. I'm sure the duration of our raid will work itself out.

So far I think the list is me, NRR and AK (and possibly Ninjanon).

I'll be bringing signs and hopefully some CCHR fliers if I can find a place to do it today.

Also, like our raids we should probably show up a little early so we can leave Tim Hortons at exactly noon. I should be there at 11:30-45 ish.

If anyone else plans to attend, please post here ^_^

Re: Operation: BATTLEFIELD : Concordia ( Moved from public to private )

Post by SomeRandGuy on Wed Apr 15, 2009 7:30 pm

Ok, I managed to find my way there and I did some brief recon work.

They are *not* open until 9pm. They close at 5 (at least they did that today). They were packing up everything, save the giant walls they'd erected. So I thought that they were potentially being kicked out. I approached 2 Concordia security guards (yes... more on this) and asked them what was going on. One of them explained to me the whole exhibit which essentially sounded like a sales pitch. I was really surprised how quickly a feeble mind can buy this crap. So as we're talking, the scilons (I presume) are placing giant chalk boards in front of their main entrance/display as well as a sheet over top of their flat screen, which I found very odd.

So 1 of 2 things happened:

1) They've been shut down and the security guards weren't told. This explains why they were closing early. The chalk boards were being placed there at the request of staff?

2) They're being lazy and closing early (probably against orders). The chalk boards were being placed to try and hide their setup while they weren't there. Would it be mean to send out an email to CCHR and ask them "Why was your exhibit closed at 6pm? I thought it was open until 9" ? I wouldn't want to get these guys in trouble :o

The biggest question on my mind, is why were there 2 security guards watching them. I'm thinking they've already informed Concordia that they are a 'targeted group' and that there are people who harass them. The boards are to try and detract people from vandalizing their stuff while they aren't there.

TLDR:
In short, I expect that the security guards will kick us out very quickly because of what the Scilons have told them. If this happens, what's our plan of action? I don't think protesting outside on the street is an option as we wouldn't have a permit.

This may all be a little tinfoily, but I prepare for the worst case scenario instead of hoping for the best.

Well, if we get kicked out, we can protest on the street by the entrance until the cops kick us out. That's what happened at a flash raid, and we still got a good two hours in before the police bothered to show up.

Because I haven't been there and am being unobservant. Are there other exhibits for other groups there? Was this one the only one to close early?

Ok, I should have lurked moar :(

Judging from the response Puck got from administration, they aren't closing. Concordia is accepting their evil money.

"Thirdly, and most importantly, we are motivated by our commitment to ensuring the university is a place where individuals and groups have the freedom to present their ideas and perspectives, whether we agree with them or not, in a civil and respectful manner." (From the admin response)

We should bring this quote with us, it may come in handy if we have to argue with security.

I didn't see any other exhibits there. It's just smack in the middle of this area, and it doesn't really look like it even belongs there in the first place.

Something else I remembered. When I was asking security about what was going on there, they briefly paused when they saw some people. The way they responded suggested that these people were their superiors. I got the vibe that the security people were essentially saying 'these people know more about what's going on here than we do'. The people in question were all being awfully chummy with the Scilons. It's possible that they were all Scilons though, I don't know. This group totaled 6 very well dressed people.

Concordia could be in a little deeper here :/ If there is corruption like you say, Scientology would bring a lot of money to the table if it gave them open grounds to recruit on a campus.

There is something really off about this whole situation... I haven't quite put my finger on it yet. There is something I'm missing...

That is definitely fishy. A quick lookup on people who have completed Scientology courses indicates someone named Jose Garcia being a clear, who has the same name as one of the CSU representatives, but I think that's just because it's a common name.

Still interesting though. If what you saw was correct, there's a reason why they're there, especially if there's no general exhibition going on.
