Oh boy, here we go again (2012 anti-mask faggotry)

Post by star eht on Mon Mar 19, 2012 6:46 pm

Again, with the clashing of the Black block, the annual protest against police bruttaly and the ironic protester-triggered ensuing violence, we have a huge wave of sympathy for an anti-mask law.

Today in the Journal of Montreal, Joseph facal opioned that "forcing people to protest unmasked was an EXCELLENT Idea. Why not want to be identified if you have the courage of your convictions and nothing to hide? this will only hurt those who see conspiracy everywhere"

here's My harpoon, no need to bombard everyone, but I Incite people who come across similar reasoning article to send a well written harpoon. post harpoon here if ya want

Bonjour Mr. Facal,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Freakout

http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news/saturdayextra/story.html?id=96c0449e-b546-4035-9d70-eea82c8b7753

cordialement.

Some people don't undestand the difference between riot and protest... sounds like mister Facal is one of them. Here are some info about a bill from the parlimant :

www.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/Publication.aspx?Language=E&Mode=1&DocId=5151861&File=19

clic ''next'' to read the bill, I don't know if it as been vote or when will it be.

This enactment amends the Criminal Code to make it an offence to wear a mask or other disguise to conceal one’s identity while taking part in a riot or an unlawful assembly.

Actually, as it's worded here, this seems to be a non-issue to us as Chanology.

It's pretty specific: RIOTS and unlafwul assemblies only. Riots involve violence, vandalism and clashes with the police.

We don't take part in either, and our protests are always cleared with the authorities. It would also be good to inform them many among us will wear masks due to dangerous vengeful policies of the cult. Considering the peacuful nature of our protests, they should be absolutely fine with it. That way we'll be properly covered.

I'm quite positive there won't be a problem whether it passes or not.

May be it would be good if we reminded the police each time we call them that we are not masked against the authorities, but for our protection. Maybe we should print off some information about Fair Game.

But this does not apply to us! We are peaceful like awesome!

Yeah, well, that's different.

I know it matters a lot more to you for the PB protests, but we're just glad it won't affect Chanology stuff even if it does pass.

Protesting and rioting are two different things... and to be completely honest, anything that helps track down and arrest assholes vandalising cars and stores is a change for the better, IMHO. If a protest turns into a riot, the best thing to do is to get the hell out of there. Continued presence there merely expresses support to the rioting vandals instead of promoting the original message. The end result is more public support for the police taking harsher action - exactly the same result we've always had each year.

I'm all for freedom, but not in the form of lawlessness. I don't want to live in the Wild West, thank you Razz

faggotry yes

sorry the 6 links are in french, I didn't read the articles yet, I think that as long as we tell the police 1 hour before the protest, we won't have problem(s), but I don't like how the titles and some sentences are missleading...

The proposed bylaw refers to riots and unlawful assemblies, we do neither.

One of the proponents actually mentioned there are valid reasons some may protest while masked, and they'll remain unaffected - I think it may have been us he had in mind, lol.

The thing is, it's desperately needed.

But it needs to be worded right so that it serves the intended purpose (masks illegal for RIOTERS) without affecting legitimate protesters who use it peacefully.

I fear a law is unavoidable now, especially cuz of these idiots. It was one thing when it was only about the annual police brutality protests going traditionally wrong.
It is now an entire new matters when you get a several months long protesting causing damage on a regular basis.

this faggotry need to be stoped, and sadly that is the only solution this crappy government found.

While i wish we should never have been put in this position, i am somewhat relieved if the law is intended for riots and illegal protests. but i DO fear abuses of this law, and an ever vigilance is nessesary, if they ever EVER try to use it against peaceful protests, or abusing it...

It could turn very ugly.

Should turn out fine, but let's always make sure to greenlight our protests with the Police each time, as usual. It may be just a tad more important from now on Smile

I have a feeling OSA may try and abuse the proposed bylaw and try using it against us (they were always very eager to report anti-mask initiatives in all media available to them - FB, twitter etc). This is why it's all the more important now to be nice and gentlemanly at all times... and have handy dox about Fair Game readily available so that *if* they try anything, they'll end up shooting themselves in the foot. Again.

well, it's prety much against freedom of NOT peaceful reunions.

I wonder how they'd go about it though, when trouble arise deem said reunion ilegal and start arresting any masked protester, or allow any person masked or not to leave and only go after those that refuse to unmask/refuse to leave. etc.

As said, much risk of abuse, also cops are more or less masked themselves, they should be easily identifiable too. Got nothing against this law in theory (as opposed to recent years no mask at ANY manifestation attempted laws), but in practice, need to see HOW they gonna apply it.

Freedom of expression =/= freedom to cause havoc, harass others with different opinion, and stamp on others rights

It passed indeed with a significant majority of votes, all courtesy of the ongoing student faggotry, Occupy and the police brutality crowd, ALL of whom have been wearing masks lately for no fucking reason.

However, technically it does not affect us in any way, but we have to be VERY thorough when we clear our protests with the police. I'm gonna call them before our next raid and explain the whole situation.

As our protests are strictly peaceful, always consulted and legalized with the Police, we should have no problems.

Remember, the law only applies to unlawful assemblies and riots.

------------------

When does a protest become a riot?

An unlawful assembly is any gathering that incites fear in a neighbourhood. According to the Criminal Code, it’s “an assembly of three or more persons who, with intent to carry out any common purpose, assemble in such a manner or so conduct themselves when they are assembled as to cause persons in the neighbourhood of the assembly to fear, on reasonable grounds, that they will disturb the peace tumultuously.”

A riot is simply defined as, “an unlawful assembly that has begun to disturb the peace tumultuously.”

Tom Stamatakis, president of both the Canadian Police Association and the Vancouver Police Union, says that when “protesters start to engage in any kind of assaultive behaviour involving other people, or even protesters themselves or police, or when they’re starting to cause damage to property, to vehicles or business, that changes the situation,” from a mere protest to something more severe and criminal.
